owner’s story

Ordered as a backup for „The Blue One” in 2001. Built at Custom specs with a carved walnut top. The top wood comes from the same tree as The Blen’s top and Chris’s personal electric guitar. First of my Larkin basses to have no active circuitry. Very basic controls – just Volume and a 5-way rotary switch in Chris’ standard switching layout, no tone control. Pickups changed to 5-string P90 in 2013, rotary switch removed in favor of a Les Paul type toggle switch with positions of volume and switch changed, so the volume is at the back now. Was originally delivered on the date of an Irish-Steirisch concert, so already on my way to the concert, I turned back to give it its live premier the same day. Neck is unusually slim and the nut is made from ebony to blend in the sound of empty strings.

On August 3rd 2018 5am in the morning, at the time Chris left, I was on my way with this bass from the rehearsing room. The bass was gigged with Red Carpet Riders on the day of Chris’ wake – August 4th 2018.
